AIM holds the 3rd Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility

The Asian Institute of Management’s (AIM) Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility held the largest gathering in Asia in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR) – the 3rd Annual Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 2-3, 2004.

The Asian Forum on CSR examines the need and value of CSR for companies operating in Asia. The theme this year is Altruism or Economics? Can CSR be sustained by one without the other? Subjects addressed were the drivers of CSR and how companies and civil society should move forward in a rapidly changing Asia. Plenary topics included CSR Implementation: Global Principles, Local Approach; Managing CSR in a context of a Global Enterprise; CSR: Boon or Bane (The Anti and Pro CSR View); Responsive Competitiveness; and CSR within an Asian Context: Altruism or Economics? Breakout sessions flowed along six tracks: Measurement and Value; Partnerships; Integrity and Ethics (Codes of Conduct/Governance); CSR Communications; Resource Mobilization/Financial Sustainability; and CSR in the Workplace.

Among the plenary speakers at the international conference were Mr. Timothy Ong, chairman of Asia Inc. Forum; Mr. Jon Chadwick, chairman of Shell Malaysia; and Mr. Jude Mannion, CEO of Robinhood Foundation.

The major sponsors this year are the Coca-Cola Company, Shell Group, and the Genting Group. Official industry partners are WestCoast Communications and the AIG Group. Cooperating sponsors are Canon and the Figaro Group.

Mr. Ramon R. del Rosario, Jr., chairman of the board of advisors of the Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility, was the co-chairman of the event along with two governors of AIM – Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr.) Ahmad Sarji Bin Abdul Hamid, chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad, and Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Lin See-Yan, chairman of LIN Associates Sdn. Bhd.

AIM Awards Asia’s Best Practices in Corporate Responsibility

The best practices in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the region were recognized during the AIM-Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility’s 2nd Asian Corporate Social Responsibility Awards given out during the Center’s 3rd Annual Asian Forum on CSR in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 2-3, 2004.

The Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center is pleased to announce that this year 197 CSR projects and programs from 15 countries worldwide were submitted to vie in five categories: Environmental Excellence, Best Workplace Practices, Poverty Alleviation, Support and Improvement of Education, and Small Company CSR.

The winners of the 2nd Asian CSR Awards, honoring Asia’s outstanding CSR projects, were announced at a gala dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur on September 3.
